How to Pass the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner in 30 Days

Cloud Computing·4 min read·PractiseExam

If you have a month and no cloud background, can you actually pass the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner? Yes, this is one of the more approachable certifications AWS offers, and 30 days is enough if you study with the exam's own structure in mind rather than watching random videos and hoping. The trick is to spend your time in proportion to how the exam is weighted, and to find out where you are weak early. Here is how do I pass CLF-C02 in practical terms.

What the CLF-C02 exam actually looks like

The exam is 65 questions in 90 minutes, delivered linearly, which works out to about 83 seconds per question. That is comfortable pacing; you are not fighting the clock the way you would on a deep technical exam. You need a scaled score of 700 on a 100 to 1000 scale to pass. Scaled scoring means not every question is weighted equally and there is no fixed number of correct answers that guarantees a pass, so aim well clear of the line rather than exactly at it.

Because delivery is linear, you can flag and revisit questions freely within the time you have. Read each question twice. Cloud Practitioner items often hinge on a single qualifying word like "most cost-effective" or "least operational overhead," and the wrong answers are usually plausible services that just do not match that qualifier.

Study in proportion to the domain weights

The four domains are not equal, and your calendar should reflect that. Here is the official breakdown, taken from the exam guide when we verified it on 24 August 2026.

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) domain weighting, per the AWS exam guide
DomainWeight
Cloud Technology and Services34%
Security and Compliance30%
Cloud Concepts24%
Billing, Pricing, and Support12%

Cloud Technology and Services alone is a third of the exam, and together with Security and Compliance it accounts for nearly two thirds. That is where the bulk of your hours should go. Billing, Pricing, and Support is the smallest slice, but it is also the most memorisable, so do not skip it, just do not over-invest.

A 30-day plan that follows the weighting

Week 1: Cloud Concepts and the mental model

Start with Cloud Concepts even though it is only 24%. It is the vocabulary everything else assumes: the value of the cloud, elasticity, the shared responsibility model, and the well-architected pillars. Get this right and the service questions stop feeling arbitrary.

Week 2: Cloud Technology and Services

This is your biggest domain, so give it the most days. Learn the core compute, storage, database, and networking services well enough to say what each one is for in one sentence. You do not need deep configuration knowledge; you need to match a described need to the right service.

Week 3: Security and Compliance

The second-heaviest domain. Focus on the shared responsibility model again from the security angle, IAM basics, and where AWS's compliance and encryption responsibilities begin and end. Many candidates lose easy marks here by guessing.

Week 4: Billing and full-length practice

Cover Billing, Pricing, and Support quickly, then spend the rest of the week on timed, full-length runs. This is where an AWS Cloud Practitioner mock test earns its place.

How to use mock tests without fooling yourself

A mock test is a diagnostic, not a trophy. Sit a full 65-question set under the real 90-minute limit, then read the explanation for every question you got wrong and every one you guessed correctly. Score yourself by domain so you can see whether your weak area is Security or Billing, and steer your remaining days there. Two or three honest timed runs in the final week tell you far more than another week of reading. If you want structured sets that mirror the weighting above, our AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner mock test is built domain by domain, and you can buy a mock test pack to run through as many timed attempts as you need.

One caution: a practise exam for AWS is only useful if the explanations teach you something. Do not memorise answers, memorise the reasoning, because the real exam rewords everything. Treat each practise exam as a way to surface gaps, close them, and re-test until your by-domain scores are all comfortably above the 700 line.

Thirty days is tight but very doable for CLF-C02 if you respect the weighting, practise under real timing, and act on what your mistakes tell you. When you are scoring consistently clear of the pass mark across all four domains, book the exam. If you want more reps before then, get a mock test pack and keep drilling until the pass feels routine.
